The Whale Pod : New Creative Hub Seeks Entrepreneurs

The Whale Pod : New Creative Hub Seeks Entrepreneurs
Whale Arts

An exciting new incubator unit for new-start and micro creative enterprises has been established at WHALE Arts in partnership with Community Enterprise.  Whale Arts is a well established, vibrant arts agency, with a strong network of cultural connections, in an area of low cost space for new start businesses and Community Enterprise has a 26-year track record in supporting enterprise growth.  Community Enterprise as well as providing hands on business support to new enterprises brings expertise in on-line retailing with RunnativeTM ( – an online platform for the marketing and sale of high quality arts and crafts.

The programme will offer newly refurbished space with brand new IT capability and access to reception, internet and other services, at a fixed low rental for up to 18 months.

In addition, the start-up or micro creative businesses would benefit from a range of specialist support including:
o access to an in-house mentor with an arts and enterprise background
o structured opportunities to work together and with other agencies
o a programme of business development learning opportunities
o formal, structured business development reviews at 6, 12 and 18 months
o access to customised business development support through Community Enterprise
o access to funding for feasibility studies, market research and business development planning.

The proposal is built on the belief that new entrepreneurs, often very isolated, respond to different types of support.  We will offer a mix of both structured and informal support mechanisms, combined with regular growth reviews, with the aim of improving the sustainability and growth prospects of those involved.

Creative Scotland has contributed to the funding of this programme and we are grateful for that support.

We aim to support 9 new creative businesses over two years so spaces are limited.  Anyone with a creative and enterprising idea who feels they would benefit from the programme should contact David Henderson on 0131-458 3267 or
The programme will start in April 2014.
