Following a consultation process – involving over 400 people from across our SE community – we now have a version of the ‘SE Vision 2025 – Building a New Economy’ for circulation – feedback invited. Attached is a 4 page Executive Summary – plus a link to full report. The document has taken on board a wide range of views from within our sector – and can be seen as benchmark; what needs to happen for social enterprise to increase its contribution to the social, economic and environmental landscape in Scotland. It is assumed that these ideas will continue to evolve. Some will see it as a bold document; for others – not bold enough – but, importantly, it is starting point, we hope, for a wide-ranging and inclusive national dialogue on the role of social enterprise in a changing Scotland.See more. Dundee Business Week is taking place between 23rd and 27th Feb 2015. Dundee SEN is taking part this year in a more proactive role – which includes hosting events and offering one-2-one surgeries along with the Business Gateway and the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, see more. Community Enterprise Ltd is considering working with others to establish a Third Sector Enterprise Centre in West Lothian – to both strengthen existing enterprises in the area and stimulate new entrepreneurial activity.  This is more than just office space.  The key objectives are a) to offer affordable quality accommodation and meeting space to third sector organisations, social enterprises and social entrepreneurs and b) to encourage innovation and joint working by creating an atmosphere of collaboration and mutual learning while developing job creation and learning. See more.

There is a lot of chat about food sovereignty at the moment and at this week’s conference, ‘The Politics of Food and Nutrition: Resilience, Security and Justice in a Global Context’, key note speaker, Mike Small of The Fife Diet, called for sovereignty for food sovereignty. Mike has built not just a network but a community that is committed to changing the current unsustainable food system.  Over the past 8 years, The Fife Diet has been shaping and changing behaviours around food and carbon footprints. Mike will soon be publishing some work gathered over the course of the project and now calls for a whole system change for food and sovereignty. In the meantime, read the Common Weal’s vision for food, just one of their ‘key ideas’, here.
