The SENs: Friday 5th June 2015

Yesterday, Dundee SEN (DSEN) hosted a ‘stakeholder’ event for a range of organisations and individuals in the city to explore how SE can play an increasing role in shaping the way that health and social care services are planned and delivered within Dundee itself – including integration, SDS and social prescribing. Over 40 delegates attended the event – which will be followed up with a study visit to Healthy Options in Argyll and Bute by members of the Dundee SEN. This is part of Senscot’s Health and Social Care Transition Project . It is hoped that this ‘pilot’ can encourage a more collaborative approach between local social enterprises; Third Sector Interfaces; and statutory bodies that can lead to better understanding of what they can respectively contribute and, in turn, to a more joined up approach to the delivery of local services. To find out more, contact Mary. The Social Enterprise Summit takes place next week (10th/11th June) at the Kingsmill Hotel in Inverness. The two day event is just about sold out – 200 delegates – and bookings will be closing today (5th June) at 2pm. To book your place, see here. Senscot met with the Fife SEN management group and Fife Council this week to talk about the Fife Council Economic Development – SE Development Operational Plan.  Although already published, the Council is keen to work with the SEN and its members to develop the plan further – identifying potential partners; gaps in support; and additional opportunities for social enterprises in Fife. For more info’ on Fife SEN, contact Sarah. Cultural SEN members Hoda Productions, Artlink Central and MAKlab Limited have all been successful in Creative Scotland funding for youth-led digital arts and culture projects – Time to Shine.  The funding links with Scotland’s first National Youth Arts Strategy which sets out a vision and key recommendations to enable Scotland’s children and young people to flourish and achieve, in and through the arts and creativity. Scotland’s Social Enterprise Awards 2015 are now open for applications – the annual awards programme managed by Social Enterprise Scotland recognises innovation and success in Scotland’s vibrant social enterprise community. There are five categories, as well as nominations for a new Social Enterprise Champion Award, which will recognise outstanding individuals in the sector. The deadline for submissions is Friday 10 July – see the Awards Information Pack for all the details on categories, eligibility, criteria and the application process before beginning your application or nomination. See launch press release. Latest newsletters published this week from the Edinburgh SEN, Glasgow SEN and Sports SEN.
