Yesterday, we hosted our 10th SE Conference and Ceilidh – our biggest yet – with over 140 delegates. This year’s event provided an opportunity to reflect back on the last 10 years and also to look forward with an interactive and lively session on the future SE Strategy for Scotland. Congratulations to Bruce Gunn (Deliver Next Day Personally) – scooping both the Dragons Den and the Audience Prizes. We’ll have more information next week. Congratulations to ABSEN and Sport SEN member, Stramash, the Argyll based specialist outdoor nursery and outdoor adventure provider, on winning the Rural Innovator Award at the inaugural Scottish Rural Parliament awards last week, see more. Health and Edinburgh SEN member, Life-Pod CIC, has just launched a new App to help people suffering from compulsive acquiring. It can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store and Google Play. Life-Pod provides advice and practical support to people affected by hoarding disorder and other conditions resulting in chronic disorganisation – as well as provides training, advice and guidance to housing, health and social care professionals who support people affected by hoarding in their own communities. We’re sorry to see this week that Aberdeen SEN member, Send-It, a mental health charity and social enterprise, is to close its doors after 45 years. This follows a decision by Aberdeen City Council to cut its funding. Send-IT has been provides support for adults recovering from mental ill health, helping them into employment, education and volunteering; see press release. The Scottish Government is inviting funding proposals for projects which will help to develop and improve Self Directed Support (SDS) provider services and the SDS workforce over the next three years. Sarah attended the Creative Industries Scotland Conference: Future Design for Success, this week. Culture Republic talked about the need to connect with audiences, understanding the disconnected and how to reach out. Janet Archer, Creative Scotland, gave an overview of their current remit and how they will deliver through their 10 year plan – which is a shared vision for the sector. A new Creative Industries Strategy will be published by the end of the year and a new Innovation Fund launched by next April. On Tuesday 18th Nov Senscot is attending the Inverclyde Third Sector Conference – jointly delivering a SE Policy Session with Inverclyde CVS. This year’s conference is being held at the Beacon Arts Centre and includes the Inverclyde Community Awards 2014. Speakers including Cllr Stephen McCabe, Leader of Inverclyde Council; who will give their insight into the future role of the third sector, taking into account public service reform and greater collaboration.
