Our fairy tales and myths are full of the ”magical elderly”. Witches, sorcerers and wise magicians are generally pictured not as young, or even middle-aged, but as old. Even God, Jehovah, is seen as an elderly gentleman. In everyday mundane reality, however, old age is considered the least interesting phase of a person’s life. Elderly people are often asked to stay out of the way, not to make waves, and not to be a nuisance to those who are younger.
