Station fuels Wester Ross residents
Applecross Community Company is hoping that it can take over the operation of the crucial service later this year.
Previously the owner of the local shop opposite the filling station ran the petrol pumps but has now decided to give it up, a move which has left owners Applecross Community Council with a problem.
Each community councillor individually had liability for the filling station if anything went wrong.
A community company would result in them having limited liability which would mean it would be much easier for them to run.
The nearest alternative petrol station is a 4O-mile round trip to Lochcarron, and it means driving over Britain’s highest hill pass -Bealach na Ba, The company has applied for funding from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Big Lottery Fund for a feasibility study to be carried out which the company expects to begin next month.
