Social Investment Scotland Customer Needs Survey

Social Investment Scotland Customer Needs Survey
Social Investment Scotland
23 April – 20 May

Social Investment Scotland(SIS) recently conducted a ‘customer needs’ survey by means of an on-line questionnaire. All organisations completing the survey were entered into a prize draw and we are pleased to advise that Cli Gaidhlig based in Inverness won the draw. They will be receiving a website audit from Bannerman Technology who offer a wide range of software and dynamic database solutions.

The purpose of the survey was to collect information from third sector organisations based in Scotland to enable SIS to design/improve existing products for social enterprises. We are currently analysing the information collected however would like to share some high level statistics:-

• 88 organisations completed the survey
• 72% of organisations completing the survey have been in operation for 3 years or more
• 89% of organisations completing the survey have a business plan
• 93% of organisations completing the survey are planning to expand their business over the next 3 years
• 69% of organisations completing the survey who are planning to expand are looking to expand into new areas of operation or provide their service to more customers
• 55% of organisations completing the survey indicated that they would be willing to take on a loan

The above data is all very positive and it is interesting to note the high level of established third sector organisations completing the survey. It is also very encouraging that a  high proportion of organisations have a business plan although given the number of mature organisations  completing the survey perhaps not surprising. The one statistic which really took us by surprise, but perhaps reflects the confidence of the sector, is that 93% of organisations completing the survey are planning to expand their operations over the next 3 years and  this against a background of economic downturn!

The other statistic which particularly pleased us is  55% of organisations indicated that they are willing to consider loan funding to help them achieve their aims. We believe that this reflects a maturing  third sector in Scotland which is beginning to recognise the benefits that loan finance can provide.

The full survey results will be posted on the SIS website shortly.
