Social Enterprise: Save our Streets

Social Enterprise: Save our Streets

More and more often in the news hear about the decline of the high-streets and the negative impact that the recession, digital technology and out-of-town shopping centres (amongst other things) are having on the health of the high street and its role in the lives of local communities. Firstport are interested in finding out the potential role that social enterprise can have (or already has) in delivering successful interventions that regenerate or improve our local high streets; for example, in driving footfall and increasing economic activity, improving access to or preserving local services, increasing the social function of the high street and helping to reduce anti-social behaviour and/or crime.

Firstport are looking for examples of initiatives that have worked (and those that haven’t too!) and I was hoping you could include the link to the survey below on your next Networks bulletin?  All Firstport are asking is for people to point us in the right direction by giving us examples of things they know or have heard about http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GC3CB7T  If you could also tweet the link using the #SocEntSOS hashtag, it would be really beneficial.  Examples of initiatives could include pop-up shops,  arts & crafts projects or local business loyalty schemes/cards.

Firstport will be publishing the results of our research and consultation later on this year.  Let me know  if you want me to drop you an email when the report comes out or if you would like me to send you an electronic copy.
