Social Capital & Abundant Communities, 4th – 6th September 2013, Scotland

Background

We are a group of engaged people with different backgrounds and from different countries. What we have in common is the desire to promote Social Capital on a very practical level in order to support the common good in our municipalities, in the regions where we live and on our planet.

We believe both in the necessity and the ability of communities to self-organise and strengthen resilience in order to cope successfully with the huge challenges that society is facing today and tomorrow.

We are looking for new ways to promote sustainable development through engagement, collaboration and co-operation among citizens.

Since 2009 we have been organising the Social Capital World Forum to bring together practitioners and other individuals interested in putting social capital into practice. The first world forum began in New Lanark, Scotland, continued 2010 and 2011 in Dornbirn, Austria and 2012 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

This year we return to Scotland with a growing sense of the need for new a approach to connect our planet and its people.  So SCWF 2013 will for the first time be facilitated using the Art of Hosting approach and methodologies in the format of an International Learning Village on the question: How can we (re)-create space for abundant community?
