Social Investment Scotland
SIS has recently celebrated its 10 year mile stone, originally set up as a unique partnership between Scotland’s four main commercial banks and the public realm. Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and HIE provided further funding towards the organisations’ running costs. Its aim is to lend social enterprises seeking to augment traditional grant support but unable to access normal commercial lending.
Recipients would have to demonstrate the investment would be used to deliver meaningful social impacts. The SIS client base is involved in a diverse range of social activities across Scotland, these include sport, the arts, youth enterprise, small community support facilities, recycling and employability projects. As well as loan finance, SIS provides business support and other services to its social enterprise clients. Having completed his first year as CEO at SIS, Alastair Davis is very keen that SIS plays a major role in enabling the third sector to build the delivery capacity necessary to address some of Scotland’s most pressing social challenges.
The current Chairman, Alf Young, as well as a number of Trustees who have served their term and have played an integral part in leading the organisation through the necessary changes brought on by global recession will step down at the end of 2012. We are currently seeking a Chairman and Trustees with key functional experience as well as a keen interest in providing finance and other business services to the social enterprise and third sector. Individuals with a background in banking, legal, SME / blue chip and social enterprise / third sector generally who can demonstrate appropriate leadership and governance experience would be welcome.
