Salary: £23,000 p/a

Senscot Legal was established in 2010 as a social enterprise, to provide a specialist offering quality, affordable legal advice and support to the social enterprise and wider third sector in Scotland. Senscot Legal`s objective is to provide a service that is approachable, accessible and affordable but also tailored to third sector issues.
Since it began trading in March 2011, Senscot Legal has provided services to over 300 social enterprises and third sector organisations. This support has covered the following areas: Employment; Governance; Policy and Procedure; Property/leasing; Dispute Resolution; and Training/Workshops. Demand for Senscot Legal’s services has increased significantly year-on-year.
To meet this growing demand, we are looking to recruit a paralegal to work alongside a small staff team. Our office is based in central Glasgow – but we work on a national basis.
The role is varied and covers many different areas of law such as Company Law and set-up, Charity Law and set up, Corporate Governance, Employment law and HR, contract, dispute resolution, and commercial leasing. The role of is to work alongside the Senior Paralegal with respect to all aspects of Senscot Legal’s caseload. This may include both large, complex cases as well as smaller cases.
Case administration and document management with minimal supervision
To attend clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and courteous manner
Researching points of law, policy and other factual issues
Preparation of legal documents
Administer filing which includes the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files
Creating and maintaining filing and information systems
Working to a monthly fee target and drafting monthly and annual fee notes, and organising for external invoices to be paid
Analysing, collating and summarising large quantities of information
Contributing as an integral member of the team to the development and success of the Senscot Legal – as well as representing the organisation in a professional manner both internally and externally
Undertaking ad hoc legal tasks when necessary under the direction of the Senior Paralegal
A high degree of self-management and initiative is expected and the candidate must have the ability to work under pressure, be flexible and adaptable to cope with peaks of activity and workload. In particular: –
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
Effective organisation skills – especially with respect to ongoing management of large quantities of documentation
A strong work ethic and willingness to undertake work as required
An ability to work independently or as a team.
The ability to work efficiently and to deadline
Behave professionally at all times by demonstrating professional and ethical conduct
Strong IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
Flexible and proactive in approach to work and willing to use initiative
Good communication skills and able to deal with people at all levels
Willingness to stay current on new company, employment and charity legislation
Understanding of the need to meet agreed fee earning targets and have an understanding of key financial issues relevant to the organisation
Time management skills
Good client relationship skills
Minimum of 2 year previous experience working as a fee earner/paralegal in any specialism
A business/law degree is preferable but not essential
Membership of the Institute of Paralegals is preferable but not essential
A specialist paralegal qualification in any discipline is also preferable but not essential
