About

The Community Food Social Enterprise Network (SEN) was established   following a series of training events sponsored by Community Food and Health Scotland (now part of  Public Health Scotland)and a Roundtable event which suggested there was a growing interest in social enterprise in the community food sector. In March 2011, an initial meeting at Gorgie Farm confirmed there was an appetite for a Community Food SEN to get off the ground.

The Community Food SEN has over 80 members (as at February 2021).  Membership is open to any SE code-compliant organisation who are involved in using food as a tool to tackle inequalities and address wider social issues experienced in their local communities. Member activities are wide ranging including: growing, community cafes, food cooperatives, providing access to good food, addressing food poverty, cookery classes and more.

The Community Food SEN continues to have a strong relationship with the Health SEN, recognising the importance of community food activity in addressing health inequalities and delivering health & wellbeing outcomes.

A monthly Social Enterprise Health & Wellbeing Newsletter is available to anyone interested in the SEN or work of SEN members.
