West Lothian set for its first outdoor pre-school nursery

Simply Play announce plans for Wonder Woods Outdoor Nursery – West Lothian’s first, fully outdoor pre-school nursery.

Local social enterprise Simply Play are delighted to announce their plans for Wonder Woods Outdoor Nursery – West Lothian’s first, fully outdoor pre-school nursery.

Thanks to investment funding from Inspiring Scotland’s Thrive Outdoors programme, the children will spend their days exploring and having adventures, as they play in and around the woodland, engaging with nature, exploring, enjoying the campfire and cooking.

At their extensive site at Harburn, near West Calder, Wonder Woods will initially be open three days a week (Tuesdays to Thursdays) for morning, afternoon or full-day sessions after the Easter holidays.

Wonder Woods will be open to all but will focus on the West Calder, Polbeth, Bellsquarry, Murieston corridor.

Simply Play chief executive, Raymond Branton, said “We are all delighted at our latest development for West Lothian’s children and their families.

“A woodland nursery has long been a dream of ours and we are excited at all the wonderful possibilities that this site at Tor Whitie, in Harburn, has to offer everyone.

“We would especially like to thank the Pearce family for their generosity and support in letting the community use their woodland.”

As a partnership nursery with West Lothian Council, parents will be able to use their free childcare hours allocation for as many sessions as they want at Wonder Woods. As the new service prepares to open there will be number of open days and community engagement events to look out for.
