The Space is Scotland’s first pay what you decide venue for events, workshops, food and non-alcoholic drinks.
Launched in April 2017, the venue is operated by People Without Labels, a charity with a vision of supporting people to flourish and realise their full potential by creating an environment for creative and recreational events.
At the heart of The Space’s ethos is a desire to ensure activities are accessible, not just physically but financially and democratically. All revenue is reinvested back into the charity to provide services tackling poverty and social isolation in the community.
Based in Glasgow, the venue provides activities for the mind, body and soul: a place for music, art, comedy, film, performance, education and discussions.
Taiko drumming workshops, weekly drama workshops, yoga flow and dancing sessions are just some of the events on offer in an ever-changing line-up of activities hosted by The Space.
Other local organisations are also able to rent out large studios for events, with a tiered pricing structure in place. Paid gigs and non-charitable events are charged as per The Space’s normal rates – starting at £20 an hour for its 200 standing capacity venue room.
Workshops which benefit the community, however, will not be charged any rental or booking fee. Likewise, if your organisation is a charitable organisation, venue hire is free.
Private and co-working studios are also available for creatives, providing a comfortable, safe and friendly environment to work in.
The Space also has an on-site cafe which operates as a social food enterprise, providing vegan, veggie and freegan hot and cold meals and snacks, along with an array of non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks, all on a Pay What You Decide basis.
