Space is a new community hub has emerged out of the former Broomhouse Centre. The new Broomhouse Hub will now be known as ‘Space’. ‘Space’ has been inspired by conversations with the local community – which have underpinned by their vision for Space. Their vision is about a place that can nurture, support and inspire, so that lives are fuller – and potential is fulfilled and community connections can flourish.

Space offers a range of services and activities that include:

The Beacon Club offers a safe space for elderly people with Dementia to come together and be supported. Through Vintage Vibes, in partnership with LifeCare, they support isolated people over 60 with one to one companionship. They help Adult Carers, through a support group or one to one. Our Space for Wellbeing is a friendly and relaxed peer support group.

Book Space for your next event, conference, birthday party or meeting – they have excellent facilities for hospitality and events. In addition, they have a Space for Co-working, with hot desks available by the hour, the day or all year around – that may suit a start-up business, a social enterprise, a statutory agency or charity.

Space Kitchen Café is open every day, Monday to Friday. If you’d like to develop life and social skills in a supportive catering environment, Space Kitchen Training could be for you. Space Kitchen Catering is their social enterprise.

Space also caters for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers. There is Space for Youth Befriending, in partnership with Big Hearts, for young people in kinship care. On a Friday night, they run a Youth Drop-in session for local young people.

Their vision is to contribute to the regeneration of the Broomhouse, Sighthill & Parkhead area of Edinburgh – one of the areas of highest relative deprivation in the city; Space will be central to re-energising this.

They aim to create a Hub that will be a real anchor for the community and a catalyst for change. Our aspiration is for the new facility to be a busy hub of community activity, seven days a week, 12 hours a day, that will stimulate social and economic regeneration. They want to establish a community-owned, managed asset that changes in response to need over time – and that can provide personal, social and community development opportunities for disadvantaged groups of people in and around Broomhouse.
