Projekt 42 is a not-for-profit gym and wellness centre in Leith, Edinburgh, focusing on strengthening the connection between mental health and physical fitness.
To change the way people think about mental health, Projekt 42 has a range of activities and fitness programmes designed to create positive mental health outcomes.
A unique 12-week course combines personal training, guided meditation, life coaching and counselling to provide people with the tools they need to make positive, sustainable changes to their lifestyles. By doing this, the course aims to build up an individual’s resilience to life’s ups and downs.
Projekt 42 has an inclusive focus, creating fitness and exercise options that are both accessible and affordable for everyone in the local community. Classes start at £2.50 per class, with an area provided for children to play in while their parents work out.
The gym runs over 25 varied classes for all fitness abilities, including yoga, bodypump, boxfit, circuit training, insanity classes and weight training. Prices are extremely competitive, ranging from £2.50 to £5, with an unlimited membership coming in at just £25 a month.
All profits are reinvested into the Leith community, allowing Projekt 41 to provide 20 free memberships each month, as well as counselling and life coaching for the people who need them most.
Projekt 42 plans to open a new site just off Leith Walk which will allow for new fitness studios, an indoor cycling studio, food and nutrition workshops and the UK’s first physical active counselling empowerment programme.
The new site will also incorporate an employability programme where young adults in the community are able to gain affordable fitness qualifications before moving on to positive destinations.
