Lorn and Oban Reuse Initiative

Lorn and Oban Reuse Initiative (LORI) was set up in 2009 as the trading arm of the GRAB Trust – a social enterprise that has been providing activities in relation to recycling, litter & reuse in Argyll and Bute for over 20 years.

LORI’s mission is to help divert and reuse furniture and other household objects before they reach the waste stream; to provide volunteering and training opportunities for the long-term unemployed; and to provide low-cost furniture packs to homeless people to help them furnish their new home.

LORI takes donations of unwanted furniture to refurbish and sell on through its furniture warehouse in Oban, as well as offering a delivery and collection service across Argyll – using monies raised to develop its work around employability and providing discounted furniture for the newly-homed.

Working with public agencies throughout Argyll, LORI provides activities and training partnerships to help unemployed and disadvantaged people, including community service offenders, get back into work through the Working Rite, the Employability Team and Community Justice programmes.

Through these training partnerships, volunteers are able to access Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Computing, PAT testing and First Aid training, to gain work experience.

For volunteers who have difficulty with reading, writing or numeracy, LORI will facilitate a training placement through its community education programme.
