Cullen Community & Residential Centre

Cullen Community & Residential Centre (CCRC) aims to provide recreational facilities for the benefit of all members of the local community, as well as the general public.

Formerly a school building built in 1876, the centre has a choice of large, class sized rooms that can be hired by community groups or for residential bookings, as well as adjoining shared outdoor garden and playing field areas.

Group accommodation is available, with two separate dormitories on site, each with 16 beds, as well as two group leader rooms, each with a further three beds.

We provide a range of indoor and outdoor facilities for community groups, including an art studio, games hall, lounge areas, kitchen and dining room, a multi-purpose hall and several classroom spaces.

Rooms can be hired from around £13 an hour for a wide range of activities – arts and crafts, dance and drama, educational classes, fitness groups and other social events.

CCRC also plays an important role in promoting local tourism initiatives, signposting attractions and activities in the local area on its website to entice visitors to the area – coastal trails, marine wildlife, adventure activities and golfing are all promoted on its website.

The centre is run by a local charity called The Three Kings Cullen Association, which is directed by a team of local volunteers.

In 2017, the local authority announced that it was going to close the Cullen CRC by June 2018 with a view to demolishing the building in 2019 unless the people of Cullen took on the building as a ‘Community Asset Transfer’.

A community meeting, attended by around 100 people, was held in the Cullen Town Hall where it became clear that the will of the people of Cullen was to keep the centre open.
