Senscot is the Scottish partner for the national role out of the Social Enterprise Mark which has been developed by RISE in the South West of England. On Wednesday 18th March (1.30-4pm, The Melting Pot, Edinburgh), we are hosting a `discussion forum` to see if there is an appetite for the SEM in Scotland. So far the feedback has been positive with most keen to find out more. We’ve still got some spaces left so if you’d like to get in ahead of the crowd, this is good event to come along to. Around a dozen Scottish MPs showed up and heard presentations from Gerry Higgins(CEiS), Laurie Russell (Wise Group and SSEC Chair) as well as Antonia Swinson. Whilst highlighting how the UK is leading the way in the level of support, investment and resources available to social enterprises, the importance of community benefit clauses was also identified as a significnat opportunity for social enterprises in the future. At the end of proceedings, McSence presented Baroness Thornton (former Chair of the English Coalition) with a figurine, christening her the ‘mother of social enterprise’ as a token of thanks for her work in supporting the social enterprise movement across the UK.An East Lothian SEN member has become world record holders! Fly Right Dance Company recently hosted the largest Tea Dance in the world,where 209 couples participated in a huge outdoor event, which is now officially in the Guiness Book of Records. The event,organised by Glasgow City Council’s Culture and Sport department and held in George Square, Glasgow, on 30 December 2008, has officially broken the previous record of 195 couples set in Trafalgar Square in 2005.Network NoticesThe next Network Reps meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday 6th May 2009 in Glasgow (venue tbc), from 10.30 am til 2pm with lunch provided.
