On Wednesday, we attended CEiS’s annual Social Enterprise Conference in Glasgow. Over 200 delegates attended – including a good number of SEN members – to hear discussions/ presentations on a number of the challenges and opportunities for our social enterprise community in Scotland. The event kicked off with the launch of the Social Enterprise Strategy for Greater Glasgow, produced by Glasgow SEN. One of its goals is to establish Glasgow as the City Of Social Enterprise as well as outlining actions that will build a vibrant and sustainable local social enterprise movement. The 7th Social Enterprise Ceilidh will be held at New Lanark on 17th/18th November 2011. Bookings are now open. We’ve had a number of recent enquiries and have decided to take bookings earlier than usual. We will have the draft (and refreshed) programme ready in the week or two. SoLoCo has now gone live and is calling on projects looking for funding to join up. It’s great to see that a couple of SEN members are involved in the pilot. Using a pioneering new online approach, SoLoCo is the first ever dedicated crowdfunding website for the Third Sector – and its founders want it to revolutionise how projects are funded in this country. The Ayrshire SEN is hosting a Procurement Event on 3rd November at the Aspire Centre in Irvine. The half-day conference will explore local and national procurement policy and the opportunities and challenges for social enterprises in winning public sector contracts. Case Study: Moray SEN
Set up in 2006, Moray Social Enterprise Network (MSEN) carries out networking, training, events and other support activities. MSEN is moving forward with the next steps in developing the group. Network member REAP won the tender to deliver admin support for the 2010-2011 and will aim to build on the success of previous Social Enterprise Awards Dinners and Community of Business events.
