The 2013 Social Enterprise Conference and Ceilidh will be our 9th since our first outing at New Lanark in 2005. As you may know, this year’s event is moving to the Westerwood Hotel, near Cumbernauld – 14th/15th November – a date for your diary! This is mainly down to space considerations. As well as the usual SEN members, we are also hoping to welcome members from Social Firms Scotland, Social Enterprise Scotland and Intermediary colleagues. The ReadyforBusiness (RfB) Consortium held an event in Edinburgh yesterday, reviewing progress in the delivery of the Govt’s ‘Developing Markets’ contract. With John Swinney in attendance, RfB Partners and stakeholders highlighted the achievements and challenges of the programme to date. Just Enterprise – the Scottish Govt funded business and learning development programme – has announced their new round of programmes for this autumn. The new round will consist of Leadership programmes; Thematic programmes; and Business Development workshops. All courses are FREE and will be available in locations across the country. Next month, many of Scotland’s community food sector will gather for the Nourish Annual Conference (3rd and 4th Sept, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh). This year’s theme is “Feeding the Five Million: what would it take for everyone in Scotland to eat well and sustainably?” The two day event will take the form of an enquiry into the issues faced and a full report will be circulated. News from West Lothian: WL SEN is the latest SEN to appoint its own dedicated member of staff. This week they appointed Fiona Pearson as their new Co-ordinator. Fiona, who will be taking up post at the end of August, currently has been working as SE development Officer with the Voluntary Sector Gateway (TSI) in West Lothian. This caps a busy few months for WLSEN and, with her experience, we’re sure Fiona will ‘hit the ground running’. WLSEN has also set up a temporary email address –
