Networks1st Update: Friday 8th April 2011

Senscot will be hosting a Social Enterprise and Sport Conference at Stirling Management Centre on 1st June. This will the Sports SEN’s first national event (see draft programme http://www.se-networks.net/shownotice.php?articleid=453). Booking forms will be available next week. We are now entering the second year of our Social Enterprise and Sport initiative with the support of sportscotland and the Robertson Trust.  Activity to date has included growing the Network (38 members), establishing the Roundtable and carrying out ‘Vital Stats’ (18 orgs). Diane has also visited over 60 sports organisations across the country. If you’d like to register your interest, contact karina@senscot.net 

Next week, a new thematic SEN takes root with the first meeting of the Community Food Social Enterprise Network at Gorgie Farm in Edinburgh. Community Food and Health Scotland (CFHS) has been helping community food initiatives with a range of learning and development opportunities around social enterprise since 2008. CFHS and the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens are now working with Senscot to support the emergence of a Community Food SEN. Membership of the SEN will be open to community food organisations that are, or aspire to be, a social enterprise (http://www.communityfoodandhealth.org.uk/fileuploads/cfhsmindingtheirownbusinesstoo-3421.pdf). Details of meeting: 11am on Tuesday 12 April at Gorgie City Farm,51 Gorgie Road, Edinburgh,EH11 2LA – just a15-20 minutes walk from Haymarket Station. Lunch will be available following the meeting. Fife SEN member Brag Enterprise is hosting a social enterprise trade fair in Ayrshire later this month. The event, entitled “Enterprising Solutions”, will be held at The Lochside House Hotel, New Cumnock on Thursday 21st April at 11am and will be the culmination of Brag`s `Motivate to Innovate` programme in the area. The programme covers Fife, Clacks, West Lothian and East Ayrshire and supports both aspiring social entrepreneurs as well as existing community organisations who wish to increase their trading activities. In addition to celebrating the Easy Ayrshire participants` graduation, the event will also be a great opportunity for existing social enterprises to market themselves and create new working partnerships.  See more http://www.se-networks.net/shownotice.php?articleid=449

NATURE EXCHANGE: Satul Verde is a small organisation who focus on sustainable use of natural resources and nature conservation.  They are led by Monica Oprean and Manuela Beloescu. The base of the organisation is in Sibiu in Transylvania but they operate also in the south and west of the country.   The Nature Exchange placement is relevant to any managers or trainers whose work involves managing rich biodiversity, which sits within a cultural landscape which has been scarred by industrial pollution.
