Senscot is currently working with the Scottish Prison Services (SPS) to develop a broader understanding of the opportunity for social enterprise in connection with Scotland’s prisons. We’re just at the starting gates with an event taking place in May to bring together social enterprises with an interest in this area with Governors and senior SPS officials in charge of policy and development. Mel Young has kindly agreed to chair the event. We are keen to hear from any social enterprises who already have experience of working with prisons. We’d be grateful if you could take the time to fill in the attached survey – http://www.senscot.net/networks1st/spsurvey.php . We attended a similar event in London this week and have a few ideas for initiatives that could be explored in Scotland as well.
A number of SEN members are making benefit of the Future Jobs Fund Programme. Fife and Clacks SENs` are hosting a placement each to cover the administration of their respective SENs and help with their development over the next year – the scheme is being run in partnership with the Coalfields Regeneration Trust. Dundee SEN is hoping to follow suit in the next round of applications. For more info, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
At S2S this year, ( www.s2sfair.com ) there will be two workshops specifically aimed at young people aged 16-25 (ish). Young social entrepreneurs will share their experiences, followed by an overview of specific support available to young people to help them get involved with and/or start up their own social enterprises. The second workshop is a Dragons Den-style ‘Pitch to the Panel’. Individuals will have the opportunity to pitch for £500 sponsored by Firstport and an iPhone sponsored by Clacks SEN member ACE (http://recycleit.org.uk). One additional outcome could be the creation of a Youth SEN. For more information on workshops, application forms and guidance notes go to http://www.senscot.net/networks1st/shownotice.php?articleid=146 Please pass this on to anyone you think may be interested.
