Last week, a good number of SEN members attended a series of workshops, held across the country, on the new Enterprise Growth Fund. The Fund is being administered by a consortium, led by the Wise Group and includes CEiS, DSL and the Social Value Lab. It will be giving out awards to third sector organisations with the greatest potential to develop and grow. Awards will range from £25k up to £200k, with £4m to be disbursed by January 2012. The application process for the Fund itself opens today (12 noon) with interested organisations being able to download the Initial Enquiry Form. This week saw the inaugural meeting of the West Lothian SEN. The meeting took place at Oatridge College with 18 folk attending. They have agreed on a date for their next meeting (8th Nov). August was a really busy month for SEN meetings, possibly the busiest ever! In total, 14 SEN meetings took place, with staff from Just Enterprise and Scottish Government attending most meetings. If you’ve not had a visit and would be interested, contact email@example.com
The Social Enterprise Academy and Networks 1st have been piloting a programme of learning for SENs. Dumfries and Galloway SEN and East Lothian SEN have recently completed their programme and Dundee SEN is about to undertake its final sessions. Feedback has been positive and we’re delighted to be looking at rolling this out with other SENs in the near future. More information will be available soon.
Scotland wins the World Cup! As I’m sure many of you will have heard, the Scottish team were once again victorious at the Homeless World Cup in Paris at the weekend, beating Mexico 4-3 in the final. Scotland’s team is selected, coached and managed by Sport SEN member organisation, Street Soccer Scotland, headed up by social entrepreneur David Duke. This will complete a journey for David as he himself was a member of the squad who won the competition in 2007. For more, see www.streetsoccerscotland.org/
Skills Development Scotland has launched its new online web service `My World of Work` which aims to help people plan, build and direct their career throughout their working lives. Providing information on skills, learning and employment, it supports the Scottish Government’s ambitions for the improved delivery of an all age, universal careers service.
