Networks1st Update: Friday 12th March 2010

The LSEN Model Rules have now been approved by both OSCR and the Financial Services Authority (FSA). This means there is now a legal structure developed specifically for Local/Thematic SENs. By adopting the Model Rules, SENs become co-operatives and, at the same time, have charitable status! A couple of LSENs are already interested in adopting them. You can do so by downloading them from our site and paying £40 to register. https://senscot.net/networks1st/showresource.php?articleid=51

Senscot is developing a `Companion Document` which should be ready in the near future. If you have any queries, please contact colin@senscot.net

We’ve been working with sports based social enterprises for around 3 years now, with interest in this thematic area growing year on year. We are extremely pleased to report that, thanks to the support of sportscotland and The Robertson Trust, we have now appointed a Social Enterprise & Sports Co-ordinator. Diane Cameron, who currently works with Douglas Westwater at Community Enterprise Ltd, will join us sometime in April. We very much look forward to welcoming Diane to the Networks 1st team.

It’s been a busy week and we are delighted to announce that Mary Allison, Director of Programmes & Policy at NHS Health Scotland and Dr Lynne Friedli, Mental Health expert on Social Prescribing, have agreed to be our keynote speakers at this year’s annual Social Enterprise and Health conference: ‘Fit for Purpose 2010’ on 23rd April at Perth Concert Hall. Social Prescribing aims to strengthen the provision of and access to solutions to health problems by linking people with non-medical sources of support within the community. These include opportunities for social enterprises working in almost any field or geographic area as well as support with benefits e.g. housing, debt, employment, legal advice or parenting.
