Networks1st Update: Friday 12th April 2013

Community Jobs Scotland (CJS) is open again for another round of applications from third sector employers. Last year a good number of SEN members were able to access the programme, providing job opportunities for many young people in their respective communities. CJS aims to create 1,000 jobs for young people between the ages of 16-24 with third sector organisations. The opportunities will be available between May 2013 – March 2014 with host organisations receiving circa £5k per vacancy. Deadline for applications is Tuesday 30 April 2013. For more, see.

As the ReadyforBusiness Consortium moves into the second year of the ‘Developing Markets’ contract with Scottish Govt, they were delighted to hear that they have been nominated as a finalist for – wait for it! – the Best Supplier Engagement category of the National (UK) Government Opportunities (GO) Excellence in Public Procurement Awards 2013/14. Given the level of competition from across the UK, this is certainly a feather in their cap and further recognition of the work that they have been doing. To get a flavour of RfB’s activity over the last 16 months, have a look at a number of new case studies that have been added to the website. See,

While most Sport SEN members would agree their number one focus is participation not elite performance, experience shows that as more people participate, so more will rise to the top.  In this respect, the work of two of our Sport SEN members is now bearing fruit.  Reach for the Sky Basketball (South Lanarkshire) recently had 2 young players, aged 10 & 11,  selected to train with the Scotland squad ( while youngsters at The Gladiator Programme (Easterhouse) recently earned themselves the nickname ‘The Magnificent Seven’ taking individual titles at the British Weightlifting championships in Birmingham.
