Networks1st Update: Friday 10th September 2010

The Social Enterprise Ceilidh, (Senscot’s annual conference for the SENs) takes place again this year, at our favourite social enterprise hotel in New Lanark. We’re still finalising the agenda but we are open for bookings now. Last year the Ceilidh was oversubscribed so the sooner the better (https://senscot.net/networks1st/ceilidh10booking.php). We’re pleased to have continued support for the event from RBS. As part of this year’s activities we’ll be presenting the award to the Scottish winner of the national photography competition, which aims to show the passion, people and places using enterprise to drive positive change. http://www.senscot.net/networks1st/shownotice.php?articleid=299

Kim attended the AGM of the Coalfields SEN this week at Croy Miners Welfare. The members have diversified into a wide range of activities within their local communities from a cinema to Zumba classes, post offices, youth clubs and much more, see http://www.coalfieldsen.net/index.html. Big news at the event was that Coalburn Miners Welfare has successfully bid as a consortia along with Community Enterprise and Coalfield Regeneration Trust to deliver the contract issued by Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire to deliver support to the third sector in rural south Lanarkshire until March 2011, more details http://www.senscot.net/networks1st/shownotice.php?articleid=298

Case Study: East Lothian

East Lothian SEN met for the first time in February 2006 in Haddington.   With the help of funding from Communities Scotland, ‘Social Enterprise in East Lothian’ developed a website and directory of social enterprises in the area.  In March 2008 they ran their first conference which was opened and chaired by the Leader of East Lothian Council.
