Networks1st Update: 8th Februrary 2008

This week saw the first `Community of Business` event in Edinburgh involving the local SEN and Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce. Over 70 folk attended and the day was considered a great success. Speakers included Carol-Anne Alcorn (Edinburgh Cyrenians), Peter Taylor (The Townhouse Hotel Group) and, of course, Antonia from the Coalition. The next one is in Aberdeen on 19th of February, with the final event in Glasgow on 5th March. If you`re interested in attending either of these, contact me at colin@senscot.net Today sees the launch of a series of business lunches organised by the Cultural SEN. The theme of first in the series is ‘Investment: Opportunity or Threat?’. The lunch is being hosted by RBS’ Community Banking. The main topics of discussion will be around how to access financial investment; what it means to be investment ready; what works for financiers and what works for social entrepreneurs. If you`re interested in attending future lunches, please get in touch Health and Community Care SEN holds its 3rd meeting today at Twecher. Most of those attending to date have been from the West Coast but Lubna Kerr has made plea for the next meeting to take place in Edinburgh. Let us know if you are based in the East Coast and would be interested in attending/hosting a meeting in Edinburgh. It would be good to bring colleagues from the east and west together. Finally, a group from the LSENs heads down to Liverpool later this month to the Voice 08 conference. It`ll be a good opportunity to get a sense of what`s going on at a UK level. There`s been considerable interest but, regrettably, we`ve now had to cap numbers at 20. More news from around the country next week
