Networks1st Update: 6th June 2008

The first Social Enterprise World Forum takes place in Edinburgh from 2-5 September, making Scotland a focal point for social entrepreneurs all over the world. Senscot are working on an idea to take advantage of all the interest this is going to generate so as many members of the LSENs as possible can take advantage of it. We mentioned last week that CEiS have asked the LSEPs to sponsor places for social enterprises. If you don’t get a bursary and you can’t afford the fee then there will be the `Fringe`on Thursday the 4th September. We’re working on the details and will let you know as soon as things are firmed up but we can say that the day will end with a `knees up`.Photos Wanted: We are trying to build up a picture of the diverse range of projects and activities carried out by members of the Networks. This is an opportunity to promote your own organisations activities through NETWORKS 1st as well as the scope of your LSEN. If you have any photos that you would like to be included forward them to anna@sencot.net. Please note that any photos sent in may be used in national publicity material. The Climate Challenge Fund, an £18.8 million fund that will support community-led action to reduce emissions has been launched by Cabinet Secretary for the Environment, Richard Lochhead and Patrick Harvie, Scottish Green MSP. The scheme is open to a wide variety of organisations to deliver innovative solutions at a local level such as becoming more energy efficient, encouraging people to walk and cycle more, and using local, sustainable food. This is part of a wide range of efforts by the Scottish Government to reduce Scotland’s carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050.
