So we’re heading for 2008 and hopes of a more enthusiastic brave new world for social enterprise. Looking back on 2007 there are plenty of high points to savour including a development worker for Argyll & Bute SEN (www.absen.org.uk), money to provide admin and other support for Aberdeen, East Lothian, and more recently Dumfries & Galloway. New Networks have been set up in Inverclyde, Clackmannanshire, Tayside and for Health and Social Care social enterprises. The Social Enterprise Strategy was launched with a new £30 million investment fund to set us all up for the next 3 years. At the moment it seems like there are new initiatives to promote social enterprise springing up everywhere. My request for 2008 would be that the money ends up being invested in coalface social enterprises and not just the support agencies. Last but not least I’d like to make mention of the third Social Enterprise Ceilidh which took place at New Lanark again. This was perhaps the best yet with more social enterprises than ever and a feeling of the sector having grown up a bit in the since the first Ceilidh. Next year looks like being even bigger and even better so 20th of November in your Diary now if you don’t want to miss out. Finally, on behalf of everyone at Senscot I’d like to wish you all a very happy festive break. We look forward to working with you in the what promises to be a lively 2008.
