Networks1st Update: 1st August 2008

Clackmannanshire Social Enterprise Network has successfully secured 2 sponsored places for the Social Enterprise World Forum from their Local Social Economy Partnership. This will enable the Network to have at least 4 members of the Network attending the event. For those thinking of going, a couple of highlights from the inaugural Social Enterprise World Forum include Sophi Tranchell – Divine Chocolate, the 2007 Social Enterprise of the Year in the UK, operating in Ghana, the UK and the USA and Thorkil Sonne, of Specialisterne Denmark (“probably the best social enterprise in the world”), who will outline how an award winning software testing business, employing people with Autism Spectrum Disorder changing attitude and aspiration as workers demonstrate their “competitive advantage”. The Fringe Forum on Thursday 4^th September is taking shape. There will be 3 events: 12.30 – 2.00 pm at the Melting Pot. ‘A Social Enterprise Trade Mark.’ Lucy Findlay of RISE will give a presentation of the Social Enterprise Trademark they are developing before rolling it out to the rest of the UK, leading into an open Question Time. Lunch will be provided. 4.00 – 5.30 pm at Dancebase. ‘Common Ground.’ A joint event with NIDOS (Network of International Development Organisations in Scotland) exploring common ground between third sector organisations working within Scotland and the Developing World. 8.00 – 1am at the Bongo Club for a Big Bash, when we will be joined by many of the Forum delegates. The East Lothian SEN (known as ‘Social Enterprise in East Lothian’) has just received a boost, with £18,000 secured for 2008/09 for a part-time Network Officer. This has been funded through the East Lothian Social Economy Partnership. This will help the network build its profile in the area and within all sectors, embed its work within the Community Planning Partnership and develop social enterprise in the area. The next meeting is at 6pm on 28th August, at the Hallhill Healthy Living Centre in Dunbar.
