Networks1st Update: 17th October 2008

Bookings for this year’s Dragon’s Den are mounting up – we`ve got 8 applications so far – but there’s still time to get your application in. As usual, we only have five places available in the Den and, with an increased prize of £5,000, this year’s selection process will have to be stricter. Deadline for applications to the Den is this Monday, 20th of October. There is also still time to get your applications in for the Market Place and the Soap Box, both of which will also have a prize for the best entrant. What better place to promote your organisation or have a ‘tongue in cheek’ rant about whatever gets your `goat`!! The programme is nearing completion. We`re especially pleased to have Mel Young – a co-founder of Senscot – along to give a pre-dinner talk in addition to the usual turn from Laurence. Don’t miss out and get those booking forms in as soon as you can. https://senscot.net/networks1st/ceilidh08.phpWe’ve been asked by Alan Key of SAN to let the LSENs know about Social Auditing Network Conference, which is an excellent opportunity to learn more about social accounting. The conference will also look at how social accounting might be aligned with Social Return On Investment (http://www.socialauditnetwork.org.uk/coming%20shortly.htm). Another conference that might be of interest to those of you involved in community energy, the environment, culture or sports, leisure and tourism is New Ideas for Business Growth where you can access knowledge, and information uncovered by the world of academic research that could help your business grow (http://www.interface-online.org.uk).Networks 1st Website is one year old this week. The site and this newsletter were specifically set up to act as an important resource for Social Enterprise Networks, so we’d really like to hear your thoughts on it. Check and see if your organisation’s details are correct at http://www.senscot.net/networks1st/nearyou.php. If you aren’t listed and you should be, let us know. By the way, we`re still chasing photos. Anna’s already built up a portfolio of photos but we’re always looking for more.Dates for Your DiaryTayside SEN, 21st Oct. / East Dunbartonshire SEN, 29th Oct. / Glasgow SEN, 31st October / Social Enterprise Ceilidh, 20-21st November / Health & Community Care SEN, 4 Dec, 10:00 – 12:30http://www.senscot.net/networks1st/diary.php
