Networks1st Update: 12th September 2008

People are already sending in advanced bookings for this year’s Ceilidh on 20th November at New Lanark. This will be the fourth national gathering of the Local and Thematic Social Enteprise Networks. The Ceilidh has grown in popularity over the years so, to avoid disappointment, get your booking in early. This year, we’re getting the Dragon’s Den application forms out as early as we can. We have the chance of an increased funding pot and will be offering the ‘Knights of the Dragon’s Den’ the opportunity to get a bit of practice in beforehand. Attached are booking forms for Ceilidh , Dragons` Den and Soap Box ——————–Pat Armstrong, Network Manager at ACOSVO, has asked if LSEN members would like to contribute to research they are carrying out on the Third Sector. The aim is to explore the characteristics of Board members, Chairs and CEOs of organisations in the sector. The research will attempt to assess relationships between the characteristics of the Board and the effectiveness of the organisation and provide insights into governance and leadership within the Third Sector in Scotland. It will also help to identify good leadership and governance practices. The survey is open until 28 September 2008. Results will be published in early 2009 and all participants will be invited to a launch event. Any questions or comments, please contact ACOSVO at policy@acosvo.org.uk or at 0131 243 2755. The survey is available electronically by way of the following link: Suevey here———————Some local announcements about the Fairer Scotland Fund have been made over the last week. Organisations in Inverclyde and Clackmannanshire were given the opportunity to tender/apply to the local authority for a slice for the fund in return for contributing towards the targets agreed in their local Single Outcome Agreement. After a lengthy and complicated application process, there was a mix of good and bad news for Network members, some who will now be faced with job losses or closures. If you have any news about how the Fairer Scotland Fund has been processed in your area, drop us a line.
