Theatre NEMO is dedicated to helping people who have been affected by mental health issues to participate in the arts as a means of stimulation and self-help. The purpose for this type of involvement by sufferers and carers is the belief that involvement in the arts helps in recovery and sustainability of a better feeling of mental health and wellbeing. This gentle nurturing of a persons self esteem and talents creates a knock on effect on the families and carers as they see the improvement in the quality of life for their loved ones.
“Our cabaret evenings are our main activity performing wise, the reason for setting this up in cabaret form is to encourage the widest range of audience/participants. Within the cabaret there is short pieces of drama, poetry readings, live music and dance. We also gather information on self-help and voluntary group’s etc. dealing with mental health issues and make this information available to our audience.”
