Who we are
We launched on 1 April 2020 as the Economic and Community Development Agency for Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders.
We want to drive inclusive growth, increase competitiveness, and tackle inequality within the region. We want to establish the South of Scotland as a centre of opportunity, innovation and growth.
We will work with people and businesses in communities right across the South of Scotland to grow its economy by providing investment, expertise and mentoring. We’ll inspire the region to think bigger and unlock significant opportunities for all.
Our four core values are embedded in everything we do. These are to:
How are we different?
We don’t just say we’re different – we are different. We are the first of Scotland’s public agencies whose legislation promotes a wider view on the economy and how it impacts all we do. Jobs are important to us but so are communities and the environment. We want to make sure that everyone, no matter who and where they are, has an opportunity to fulfil their ambitions.
We are also one of the first to have ‘Fair work’ running through all of our activities. How we treat people, including our own staff, really matters to us and we want to ensure that this runs through our region too.
Are you the right person to make sure economic development benefits the people and communities of the South of Scotland? As a Strategy Manager with experience in Community Wealth Building, you’ll thrive on the opportunity to shape our policies – and get local communities flourishing.
As part of our new and growing organisation, you’ll do something amazing for the region – all while enjoying the benefits of flexible working options and a supportive culture.
South of Scotland Enterprise (also known as SOSE) is the new Economic and Community Development Agency for the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway.
Established by the Scottish Government, SOSE represents a fresh approach to driving growth across a very special region in a way that benefits all.
We are the first of Scotland’s public agencies to promote a wider view of the economy and how it impacts all we do. Jobs, businesses, communities and the environment are all equally important to us. We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to fulfil their ambitions, no matter who or where they are.
What you’ll be doing
Join us in this particular post as Strategy Manager and you’ll focus on developing our policy and approach towards Community Wealth Building. With your help, we’ll ensure that economic development redirects wealth back into the local area. You’ll advise and support colleagues who work directly with businesses and communities, and also embed community wealth building into the way we work, especially Procurement. Plus, there’ll be the chance to work with the Scottish Government to influence and inform broader Community Wealth Building policy. The South of Scotland is a Scottish Government pathfinder area, and you’ll help to implement recommendations from our community wealth building reports.
The skills you’ll need
We’re looking for proven knowledge of Community Wealth Building and a sound strategic approach. Crucially, you’ll couple this technical expertise with excellent interpersonal skills. That means you can build connections and use your credibility to influence consultative relationships at a senior level. Experienced and collaborative, you’ll shape our direction and vision.
What we offer
We offer a competitive and varied reward package, designed to cover your wellbeing, lifestyle, working life and future, including 43 days’ holiday annually and a generous pension contribution. Our salary ranges are designed to be competitive and new entrants will normally start at the minimum pay range, except in exceptional circumstances. We want to make sure that what we offer helps you to fit your work around your life, not the other way around.
At South of Scotland Enterprise, we celebrate and support differences. We are an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, colour, ancestral heritage, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender identity and expression, or veteran status. If you need any adjustments to support your application, such as information in alternative formats or special requirements to access our buildings, or if you’re eligible under The Disability Confident Scheme please contact us and we’ll do all we can to support you.
Due to COVID-19 all our staff are currently working from home until further notice and guidance from Scottish Government, although we do expect to move to a hybrid way of working once restrictions allow. As such, one of our main hub locations (Dumfries, Selkirk or Stranraer) should be within reasonable commuting distance of your home address. To enable you to do your job to the best of your ability, IT equipment will be delivered to your home to make the onboarding process as seamless as possible.
This role is full time and permanent, although we will consider alternative working patterns.
The closing date for applications is 23rd November 2021 at 11.59pm and interviews will be held as soon as practical thereafter.
If you are an Inclusive, Responsible and Bold individual who is always Striving for success and believe you have something to offer the South of Scotland then we would love to hear from you.
