International film festival hits for Scotland’s media co-op

Glasgow film production company media co-op, a social enterprise, announces festival hits in Berlin and Chicago.

 

Film premiere in Berlin on 10 February

 

Documentary “Man for a Day”, co-produced by Louise Scott of media co-op, has been selected as the opening film in its section at the prestigious Berlinale Festival. The world premiere will be on 10 February.

 

“Man for a Day” is a wry and humourous look at gender, featuring a group of women who take the plunge and spend a week with Scottish drag king extraordinaire Dianne Torr to become the  ‘man of their choice’. Venturing onto the streets as men on their last day of the ‘gender lab’, the women find that some things in life will never be the same….

Gold Award in Chicago

 

Across the Atlantic, media co-op’s animated film for “Mikey and Jools” has won a Gold Plaque in the Educational/Youth Audience category at the Chicago International Film Festival.

 

Heather Coady of Scottish Women’s Aid, who commissioned the animation, said “we’re thrilled about the festival award. The film is such high quality, a million miles better than I’d ever hoped for. That’s the joy of working with creative people like mediaco-op.”

 

“There’s not many workers co-operatives or social enterprises in the film industry” says media co-op’s Louise Scott, “so we’re specially proud to get this international recognition for the quality of our work.”
