Human Rights in an Independent Scotland

Human Rights in an Independent Scotland
Glasgow Human Rights Network, by Kurt Mills
29.08.12

With the debate over Scottish independence heating up, one issue which has been neglected is the role of human rights. This includes both issues surrounding the right to self-determination/independence as well as the possibilities for human rights in Scotland if Scotland becomes independent. Given the breadth of knowledge and expertise present in GHRN, it seems reasonable to try to leverage this expertise to contribute to the independence debate.

To that end, GHRN are organizing a meeting on 13 September at 3:00 PM to discuss how the Network might support activities devoted to human rights and Scottish independence. These might include speakers, roundtables, workshops, etc. over the course of the year. This initial meeting will take place at Glasgow University; the exact place will be announced when confirmed. If you would like to attend this meeting, please let Kurt know (email Kurt.Mills@glasgow.ac.uk).

If you cannot make the meeting, but have ideas for activities, please pass those on, too. Feel free to pass this announcement on to others who might be interested.
