Hi-tech Scottish bid for global business
Regeneration & Renewal
A research institute was launched last week to investigate how digitial media and communication technology can help to reduce the impact of the distance between businesses in the north of Scotland and the rest of the world.
Distance Lab was launched by local economic development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise (IHE) Moray with £5 million of funding over five years.
It will initially be based at Horizon Scotland, an innovation centre at Forres, but will have satellite locations around the Highlands and Islands.
The aim of the lab is to develop digital technologies to allow new business activities over longer distances, such as developing new kinds of tourism experiences, HIE said.
HIE Moray hopes that the lab’s researchers will create new businesses, helping to boost the local economy by providing high-value technology jobs.
