General election themed film event
The Grassmarket Community Project
The Grassmarket Community Project are hosting two General Election themed film nights and screenings the following films: they are FREE and at least one will feature an informal party political Q & A session so well worth telling the members to attend.
Monday 27th April 7pm Screening ‘Spirit of 45’ (6pm Informal Q & A of UK Election candidates) – Ken Loach’s critically acclaimed documentary depicting the events and the ‘spirit’ which led to the NHS (the one thing all parties allegedly agree on!)
Candidates from all political parties from constituencies across Edinburgh who are running in the forth-coming General Election will be present (and have confirmed their attendance) from 6pm to 7pm for informal questions and answers.
It would be good to have as many social entrepreneurs, representatives from Social Enterprise organisations as well as beneficiaries from the sector there as possible to put the questions to the candidates. The atmosphere will be relaxed and they’ll be plenty of tea. coffee and cake! The event is free and the screening is free (though donations on the night are welcome).
Monday 4th May 7pm Screening ‘A Very British Coup’ – Ray MacAnally stars in this award winning drama based on Chris Mullen MP’s best selling novel which tells the story of how a radical democratically elected government fares against age-old structures and media with vested interests. Powerful and thought provoking – gripping and at times entertaining. [this screening is courtesy of Channel 4 & A Very British Coup is a Skreba Productions Ltd for Channel 4 Television*]
