Big Issue Foundation Scotland
Big Issue Foundation Scotland (BIFS) has organised a fundraising challenge of a lifetime, a 100km trek across the Sahara desert. We are keen to recruit around 20 motivated and enthusiastic people to help raise money to expand the work of BIFS across Scotland. Taking part in this trek will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the Sahara, form new friendships, challenge yourself, and to support your community.
The money you raise from this fundraising Sahara trek will help to fund the Big Issue Foundation Scotland’s new initiative ‘WITH KIDS’. Over the last 12 years BIFS has developed and supported a range of initiatives designed to address the issues arising from and underlying homelessness. BIFS acknowledges that homelessness and its associated difficulties impacts on families and communities and its effects are often intergenerational. In order to address these underlying issues BIFS is embarking on an entirely new direction through the development of its ‘WITH KIDS’ project, addressing such issues that can lead to future homelessness, offending, violence, self-harm, and drug and alcohol misuse. This project is already in progress in several schools across the east end of Glasgow, however with your help we can expand this project to include many more children and families who would benefit vastly from our support.
This trip last 10 days and is due to take place between March 19th – 28th 2010. The trek is graded moderate, walking mainly on firm/flattish conditions, over stony firm desert floor and loose soft, and in places steep, sand dunes. We will be travelling through remote desert and through the occasional small oasis. The tour cost includes flights from London, accommodation (2* – 3* hotels) and food (other than two evening meals and one lunch). All camping equipment is provided apart from your sleeping bag and sleeping mat.
The minimum sponsorship is £2500, which has to be raised before the trek takes place in March 2010. Raising the money, training and taking part in this trek will be a challenge, but we will help and support you with this.
