Food Train Evaluation Report
The Food Train

Over the last year 15 years Food Train has been providing a multi award winning highly successful shopping service to older people across Dumfries & Galloway, led by local volunteers with a social enterprise ethos.  Need for low level preventative social care services, such as Food Train provide, extend beyond local boundaries right across Scotland.  To help improve the daily lives of more older people we began working towards expanding Food Train across Scotland, with a pilot project to test our transferability to another area.

In partnership with the Scottish Government, Community Food & Health (Scotland) and West Lothian Council, we launched our first new Food Train Branch in September 2010, instantly providing a food access solution to older people across West Lothian.   Our new branch has progressed rapidly and delivered outcomes beyond expectation to local older people, volunteers and partners.   We hope it will be the first of many new areas where we can support and enable older people to live a more independent life.

Our early work has now been externally evaluated and I have attached the full report for your information.  Please do not hesitate to contact Michelle McCrindle ( if you would like hard copy of the report, or if you have any questions about the report or Food Train in general.
