Firstport Appoints New Chair of the Board
Leading development agency for new start social enterprises Firstport, has appointed Martin Dorchester as the new chair of the board.
Mr Dorchester is the current Chief Executive of David MacBrayne Ltd and brings with him an outstanding record of achievement in a wide variety of business disciplines as well as a wealth of experience in a vast array of sectors, including retail, IT and wholesale. With over 25 years experience of operating in national and international markets, Martin also brings with him experience in securing investment, launching and funding third sector organisations and global start-up incubators.
Appointed at the company’s last AGM, the board and staff were delighted to welcome an individual of Martin’s calibre, whose strategic skills and governance will deliver real value to the organisation.

On his appointment, Martin said: “I have a long-term interest in social enterprise from both a personal and operational level so I am looking forward to bringing my skills and experience into a worthy enterprise. As I join Firstport, I will be keen that we build on the great work that the organisation has undertaken so far and we explore ways to extend our reach, develop new partnerships and strengthen the role that social enterprise has to play in tackling Scotland’s most pressing social and environmental issues.”
