Congratulations for Lyn Ewing OBE, champion of community housing
GWSF News Story
Lyn Ewing, a former Chair of Govanhill Housing Association and of the Glasgow of West of Scotland Forum of Housing Associations (GWSF), has been awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to community housing in Glasgow.
A former headteacher, Lyn served on the Management Committee of Govanhill Housing Association for more than 30 years before retiring in 2010. She continues to chair the Govanhill Community Development Trust.
Lyn has also made an outstanding contribution to the success of Glasgow’s community-controlled housing movement.
She was a leading figure in GWSF for nearly 20 years, serving as GWSF Chair until her retirement last year. As GWSF Chair, Lyn dealt with no fewer than 11 ministers with responsibility for housing – and that’s just since devolution!
Lyn’s successor as GWSF Chair, Peter Howden, said, "Lynʼs many friends in the community-controlled housing movement will be absolutely delighted by this news. It is a testament not just to many years of service, but also to Lynʼs qualities in bringing people together to get things done.
“Her leadership of GWSF was impeccable. As well as being a passionate advocate for community-controlled housing, Lyn brought great determination and personal charm to her role as Chair. She used these skills to great effect, whether she was dealing with GWSFʼs members, journalists, or government ministers. We offer Lyn our warmest congratulations on this well-deserved recognition for her work”.
