Organisations working in the community sector must do more to identify and share good practice and develop a unified voice, according to a report from a panel set up by the Community Development Foundation.
The final report of the Independent Expert Panel on Community Development, produced by senior figures in charities, local government and academia, says the government must identify which communities most need support and the sector should produce more evidence of its effectiveness and diversify its funding.
"The community development field needs to develop more compelling evidence and examples of the impacts and outcomes of its practice," the report says. "There is a need for an independent review of what has been learned and achieved in communities that have experienced interventions in order to understand whether and how community development contributes to the economic and social development of the community."
