Bright future for laundry employing disabled people
A unique agreement has secured a bright future for the 30 disabled employees of Edinburgh’s St Jude’s Laundry. The agreement, announced today, will see the laundry, currently owned by disability organisation Capability Scotland, transfer to Forth Sector, an Edinburgh based social enterprise, on April 4. The move will guarantee continued employment and generate vital future investment.
Forth Sector is also a registered charity, in common with Capability, and one of the UK’s leading and most innovative social enterprises. The organisation already runs several businesses including a laundry based in Craigmillar, Edinburgh. The agreement to take over St Jude’s Laundry is part of a significant expansion programme. This programme is supported by the Scottish Investment Fund, a key element of the Scottish Government’s Enterprising Third Sector Action Plan.
