Bake Off award for Food SEN member

Debra Riddell shows off Breadshare’s well-earned trophy

Edinburgh-based Food SEN member Breadshare is celebrating after picking up an award at the Port of Leith Housing Association Big Bake Off awards last week.

The awards ceremony saw 40 entrants from the Leith area of Edinburgh across six different categories, including Best Under 16s and Best International Bake.

Submissions for ‘Favourite Local Bakery’ were made from five of Leith’s favourite bakeries: Bad Tempered Baker, Bakery Andante, Breadshare Bakery, The Kilted Donut and Mimi’s Bakehouse.

With the vote for coming down to a people’s choice on the night, Breadshare was delighted to come away with the top prize.

Breadshare had also sponsored the Healthier Bake category for the awards, providing freshly-baked sourdoughs for attendees to try and take home.

Trophies for the awards were handmade by the Edinburgh Remakery, a Cultural SEN member based in Leith.

Breadshare co-founder Debra Riddell said: “As a community bakery and social enterprise, it is really important to us to win this award which has come directly from the people of Leith.”
