The Old School Cafe
The café is on the top floor of the South Bridge Resource Centre. They are a social enterprise providing a nurturing training environment for young persons to gain confidence and employability skills.
They serve great coffee (their own special blend from Cutty Sark), cakes, light lunches, wholesome food, all made from fresh local ingredients which is made by the young people and volunteers.
The Old School Café opened officially on the 29th June 2015 and is open weekdays between 11am and 3pm. All the proceeds of the café are to be reinvested in the main charity Canongate Youth charity and the employability aims of the organisation.
The Old School Café in Infirmary Street started life as an idea from Canongate Youth, an old established city centre youth organisation to train unemployed young people in catering and hospitality, improving their social skills and employability chances.
The café users have free access to a games room and Wi-Fi. The games room attached to the café houses 2 pool tables, a table tennis table, table hockey, and a big collection of games.
Meeting spaces are available for hire and they can provide specialist catering for groups and can do outside catering if required.
They have volunteering opportunities available daily. A PVG is required (happily done by them)
The Old School Cafe are currently in the process of applying for the HealthyLiving award and the Breastfeeding Friendly award.
