Direct Inclusive Collaborative Enterprise (DICE)

DICE is a community interest company providing mentorship, peer support, brokerage and practical help for you to decide what you want from life and how you can achieve it by directing your own support.

DICE stands for Direct Inclusive Collaborative Enterprise. The three founding directors are three people who have used support, or cared for someone who has; they have also worked for many years managing ‘traditional' services for people with learning disabilities and mental ill health. They are able to share management and personal experience directly with clients to help them manage the support they would like.

Their vision is that everyone who wants to will be able to direct the support they need so they can live the life of their choice with dignity and as equal citizens. DICE’s mission is to inform and guide as many people as we can towards managing their own support and accessing the resources they need. From personal experience they appreciate how directing your own support greatly improves your quality of life
DICE is an inclusive and collaborative social enterprise, with all money made put back into the organisation and used for the benefit of disabled people and people living with long term conditions in Dumfries and Galloway.

DICE agrees with the ‘social model' of disability developed by disabled people and people living with long term conditions. This says that people with impairments are disabled by the fact that they can't join in the things everyone else may take for granted because of physical and organisational barriers and people's attitudes. This means disabled people can find it hard to get access to information, education, employment, public transport, housing and social opportunities.
