Community Enterprise Ltd

Community Enterprise Ltd (CEL) helps communities, charities and social enterprises to make good things happen, from food initiatives and credit unions to community run sports facilities. It helps organisations become more sustainable by generating income and moving away from grant funding.

Community Enterprise Ltd itself operates as a social enterprise and its mission is to help people gain the capacity and confidence to improve their community through enterprise.

A small professional team that provides personalised support to individuals and groups. Each member of the team has an area of specialist knowledge such as accounting, fundraising, marketing and impact measurement.

Their objective is to deliver support when it's needed. They charge for large pieces of work, such as business plans, and all of the profit generated is used to subsidise free support. This allows CEL to build long term supportive relationships with clients.

CEL was originally established 25 years ago and was created to help develop local community business and support local people.
As the role of social enterprise in regenerating communities has become more recognised over the last decade, so has the importance of delivering ‘hands-on’ business development support to community organisations wishing to become social enterprises. CEL has been one of Scotland's foremost providers of this support.

In recent years, CEL has been involved in exploring new initiatives. These include Fresh Focus Marketing - - which supports enterprise managers to get the most from their limited marketing time and budget. Most recently, CEL is launching Run Native - an exciting new online service, an e-commerce sales platform for ethical businesses and social enterprises.
