The Wild Olive Tree
The Wild Olive Tree have partnered with Glasgow City Mission and Bethany Christian Trust to create training placements to help people who want to develop skills as a way into work.
All profits from The Wild Olive Tree are shared between Glasgow City Mission and Bethany Christian Trust, to support their ongoing work with some of Glasgow’s most vulnerable peo-ple.
They also run a ‘gifted soup/coffee’ scheme – purchasing an extra coffee or bowl of soup which will then be offered for free to people who are unable to pay for them. At the end of every six months, they convert any unredeemed soups and coffees into our emergency fund, which we use to help those who are in need.
The Wild Olive Tree prides itself on their range of tasty and nutritious soups, scones and cakes. Each day three or four different soups, five different scones and three cakes are made fresh on the premises. In the summer, they also offer a salad option.
They serve speciality origin coffee from Dear Green Coffee, a roastery based in Glasgow city centre, as well as a range of flavoured teas and cold drinks. They also cater for dietary needs – there is always a vegetarian soup on offer, and a small range of gluten-free products.
They make sure that whatever they serve is doing good for other people. Much of their stock is sourced from Glasgow-based Greencity, an ethical supplier of fair-trade goods. Their bread comes from Freedom Bakery, an initiative based in Low Moss prison, which provides skills training to help prisoners find employment on release.
